Bullet Hell Maker v0.3 update

Hi Newgrounds.

Because of the confinement, I have more free time for the development of Bullet Hell Maker v0.3. This update is a little bigger than what I have planned.

The 0.3 version will be released in about one week.


Changes:

Menu:

  • The game now saves your progress using cookies. Cleared levels and earned stars are shown in the levels menu. Clearing all the levels unlocks a secret option!
  • 5 new levels and their hard counterparts. A few levels from older versions have been reworked.
  • The "Edit a Level" button in this menu now loads the selected level in the editor directly.

Editor:

  • New bullet properties:
  •  - Custom color: it is now possible to pick one bullet image (among 14) and one color (among 10). This means that there are 140 bullet combinations!
  •  - Health: the player's shot can collide with the bullet and reduce its health by 1, and the bullet is destroyed if its health reaches 0.
  •  -> The "life" property has been renamed to "lifespan" to avoid confusion.
  •  - Gravity angle: the bullet is attracted towards the specified direction.
  •  - Player X: the bullet's X position is set to the player's X position.
  •  - Player Y: the bullet's Y position is set to the player's Y position.
  •  - Repeat add X: increases the attack's X position after each shot.
  •  - Repeat add Y: increases the attack's Y position after each shot.
  •  - Vanish: this enables the vanishing effect when the bullet is about to reach the end of its life.
  • In the editor, the bullet's size is now defined by its width in pixels. The default value for "size" has been reduced from 100 to 20. This change does not affect levels made in older versions.
  • Speed and angle input fields now accept decimal values.
  • Bullets with the "ghost" option may leave the game screen without being instantly removed (this is a feature that allows some attacks with "trigger" effects to be prepared outside of the screen in some levels).
  • The property tooltip no longer hides the text input field that has focus.

Battle:

  • Before the battle starts, there is a 1.5-second delay to prevent players using the mouse from missing the first shots and failing the combo challenge.
  • The enemy's AI has been changed in 2-players mode: it now chooses a targeted player after a random delay.
  • New post-game screen with a button to play the next level after a victory.

Others:

  • Graphic and sound improvements.
